Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I would be on just about every diet i could get a whole , but my addiction of food was so bad if i was stressing it was my comfort at the time and then it was terrible, i would feel guilty and there i was trying another diet at different time and same senerial.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

My health getting worst, my diabetes, taking oral meds plus 91 units of insuline aday plus some on a sliding scale. My blood pressure out of control. Knee problems .

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

tie my shoes, not being hungrey

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My primary Dr. suggested the surgery, due to the fact she saw how i would be on diets lose the wt gain. My impression was that , i was glad for maybe a change in my life for better.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

I think my insurance for being on top of things and they saw how many problems i was having with my health. My advice make sure you follow every guide line your insurance asks you to do.

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

He was very informative, that when i left i was not scared and got positive feedback to all my questions i had.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

My health

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

one was my BMI it was extremely high ,and the information i got from the RNY and Lap Band proceedure,

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

I had fears of dying because i would hear other people saying what if you die, well that is why you get all the information and explore your options, and always remember any surgery you might have , there could be complications.

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

to be honest , i only told my daughter and my son, and one niece. they are very supported of my decision, now that 2 wks have gone by they are so happy for me .

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

It was good, but the room did not have enough room for two patients. Hair brush, tooth paste tooth brush, change of cloths.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

no thank god

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I was trying even harder to lose wt , keep my A1C below what i need to do walk walk.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

Am sure it will be different for every one , me i had pain but very little . Most important is to walk .

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I attend the support groups at the hospital where i had my surgery, I can call my Dr.'s office anytime i need.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?
