Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was always on an up and down kind of thing. I had done everything short of committing suicide.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

My self esteem and self confidence.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

LIVING A FULL LIFE!!! With walking and running and all kinds of physical stuff.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I heard of the surgery through a dear friend of a friend..

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My stay was extremely comfortable. Every one there was AWSOME!!!! The most important thing I brought was my wonderful husband. If you have someone there for you. Bring them along... You are gonna need them....

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I had no complications from the surgery.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

Very anxious and excited at the same time. Death came across my mind several times (as it should) but I was willing to do what ever it took to make me better..

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I have had no support groups so far, but I am now able to begin my own to give the support that others need so desperately.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have very minimal scarring. It looks great!!!!

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I am now at a plateau. I have leveled off at 143lbs. I am 8 months out so far.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

People never recognize me if I haven't seen them in a while.. It's kinda fun!!!
