Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I yo-yo with weight...and bouts of deep depression because of my weight....I would hide behind booze because of my weight...I would not "go out". and then I would resort back to eating and gain everything I lost back

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Getting stuck in chairs and having the chairs get up with you....

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

nothing yet

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

That it wasn't for me.....too many people die. Then I started digging deeper on the internet and wow the mortality rates are there but so much lower then I heard about....I guess you dont' hear about the sucess stories

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

St Lukes over all was alright...there were good people around for the most part (and some with bad hair days)I was there for 4 days...the best thing to bring...Is a body as healthy as you can be...and a good frame of mine...don't matter what else you bring they use thier stuff and charge ya for it....LOL

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I originally entered the hospital with the understanding I was to have Laproscopic gastric bypass....well I started hemorraging and got me a pretty cut across my belly...then I quit breathing and got me a pretty cut up and down my belly. I didn't have to deal with them...they kept me very sedated. And once I "was out of the woods" and ok....I was ok with it..I knew I was high risk going in.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I stressed...I paced floors, cleaned house, argued with husband....I didn't deal with the restlessness it caused, I just let it go

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I have several online support groups..they are very helpful...and at least once aday something comes across from someone on the site that makes me laugh...this makes it worth it,

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have 6 little holes from the laproscopic surgery....plus one about 5 inch long across my belly from the excessive bleeding...then one about 9 inchs long up and down my belly...from where I quit breathing and they OPENED me to finish surgery in a hurry.... Ummmmmm I was explained that they might have to open me up...but I did not expect the across scar...OH WELL....will give me something to talk about in old age.....LOL LOL LOL

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

Have had none yet will up date when I do

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Nope not yet
