Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I've been overweight all my life. I can remember hating my stomach even as a child. I would hide candy and chocolate in my room. As a teenager I was told regularly that I had a weight problem, but when I look back at pictures of myself from that time I think I look normal. However, I certainly believed everyone when they told me and over time the problem got bigger and bigger and bigger.... literally.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight is the lack of self esteem and the inability to do all the activities I want to do.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I'm looking forward to having a niece or nephew some day and playing with him or her. I want to hike the Pacific Crest Trail and participate in all sorts of extreme activities and shop at normal clothing stores and feel beautiful again.
