Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Growing up overweight wasn't easy at all for me. I was teased and laughed at a lot. I was always athletic and played sports, which enabled me to keep my weight down. As I got older and less active is when the weight began to pile on. Before I knew it I was just a few pounds shy of 500 lbs. I was very depressed and had a dim outlook on life. WLS changed my mindset on so many things other than weightloss.... It gave me LIFE!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing for me about being overweight is how I was treated by others. I felt that I was overlooked for jobs, companionship, & other things because of my weight. The only thing worse than that was how I physically felt and looked being obese.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

After almost 8 years Post-Op I enjoy getting up each day with a mindset that's about living. I have a wonderful career, family & all around life because of bariatric surgery. I'm able to physically and emotionally absorb everything now with a different mindset, instead of with a low self esteem reaction. WLS changed my life in so many ways it's impossible to write them all.
