Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

my weight was never an issue until I hit my Mid 30's . I have 3 children and never had a problem getting back to my pre-pregnacy weight which was 130-140 , but the 30's came and so did menopause and Hypertension,thyroid and type II diabetes and the weight and I tried every diet and joined the gym I would loose some weight then it would return twice the amount I lost..

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

not being able to Keep up with life style I like ...hiding in loose clothing and wearing a swimsuit at the River, Playing softball because I was out of breath

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

going to the mall and walking the out doors

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I heard about it and looked into it 5years ago, but my husband wasnt ready but as time went on and I continued research on the surgery and then I was ready for it

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

When I called my insurance and they told me that I was approved I was ..OK now its my turn to start my new venture.. One thing that my Doctor did was I had to have all my labs and medical evaluations all done before sending anything to the insurance, which I feel helped with my approval which only took 10days..

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

I stayed at parkview community Hospilal, I was there for 5 days and the most important thing was the nursing staff was amazzing what a wonderful group of nurses..

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I felt like is was getting the flu so they kept me overnight and ran blood work to make sure I wasnt get an infection on my stomach, Doctor needed to deturmine the problem.went home the next day.. 2 days later I had to return to the hospital because I had a bad pain in my lower left tummy and I also started to throwup , The doctor did test and found out my large intestants was wraping around my small intestants and I had to have surgery to fix the problem and I ended up staying in the hospital for another 6 days because I also got amonia... So I had a intestinal and amonia issues ...

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

Well my surgery happen do fast , I had 1 week to get ready for surgery so I didnt have time for any stress it hit me the morning of..

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

I felt weak and tired but remember I had 2 surgerys in less than a week apart

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

my Doctor and hospital where only 20 minutes from home..

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

Our Dr. has monthly meetings

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have 7 very little scars

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I'm only loosing 5 to 6 pounds a month

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Yes I notice that my freinds or so call freinds who have weight issues tend to stay away or speak very litlle to me.. the way I see it if they have such a big problem with my weight loss , then maybe should see a Dr. for WLS and join me on the loosers bench stop being in denial ..
