Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Spent too much time in kitchen cooking and eating. Days consumed with what to eat that was not fattening and unhealthy to no avail. Gained more weight the more I tried to lose weight. Emotionally depressing, sad and unhappy most of the time. Carrying weight was very painful!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Forced to resign from well paying position and apply for disability due to health complications attributed being over weight. Not being able to enjoy family and friends due to pain and depression. Always complaining about how I looked and my limitations. No shopping, too hard to walk around malls and superstores. No activities at all that entailed physical endurance.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Enjoy doing volunteer work with school age children, going fishing, swimming, exercising, walking my dog at the park, taking no more prescription drugs for depression, pain, high cholesterol, hypertension, inflammation, etc. Now @127lbs. and feel great at this weight. Lost too much initially. @.110lbs had to gain a few pounds lol.... imagine that!...Had to become more stabilized with my diet and exercise. It's been ten years now and I don't regret having gastric bypass surgery. It was a lifesaving blessing. Peace and love YaVon B.
