Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I had given up. I was no longer being the mother and wife I wanted to be. I was saying no to social occasions, and places where I was worried about fitting into seats. I slept a lot. I used humor to hide my unhappiness with myself. I made fat jokes to cover my insecurities. I wanted to say what people were thinking so they never had to say it.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I hurt all the time. My feet ached. I had carpal tunnel in both of my hands, and they were numb all the time. All of this went away with the weight loss.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Just moving around with confidence and no pain. I go anywhere and everywhere now, and have turned back to the social butterfly I was in high school.
