Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I ate to make myself feel better. I looked for comfort in the food.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The way you feel about yourself. Try to hide in a crowd.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My husband had the surgery 2 1/2 years ago and did great.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

I didn't have any problems with the insurance. Make sure that you have 6 months of weight loss through a doctor's office because most insurance's require it.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

It was wonderful. The staff in the unit was very friendly and caring. I was there 1 day

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I had no complications.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

tired and a little sore

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

It is a time of adjusting. At first you feel sorry for yourself because you feel like you will never be able to eat normal foods again but hang in there it gets better

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

45 min.

Please describe in detail what things you could and couldn't eat in the weeks and months following surgery. What foods have been off limits? Please explain how your dietary tolerance changed week-by-week, and then month-by-month since surgery.

I am having some trouble with cheese. It makes me sick to my stomach.

What was your actvity level in the days and weeks after surgery?

I moved a little slower but the main thing is to walk and move as much as possible. It will get easier day by day

What vitamins and/or dietary supplements have you taken since your surgery?

multi, calcium and b-12,b-1

What side effects (nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbace, dumping, hair loss etc.) were worse for you? For how long after surgery did they persist? How did you cope with them?

no side effects

What was the worst part about the entire bariatric surgery process?

there was no bad parts for me

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

i have my husband as support because he has already been through it

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

haven't had any yet

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

not so much yet. but i feel different about myself
