Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

weight was going up and down for years, losing and gaining weight

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Being Diabetic, and overweight and having to appear in public with friends at a weight of 228#'s

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

To no longer be Diabetic, and to be off Cholesterol RX

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My PCP told me about Gastric Bypass in May of 2008 to get rid of Diabetes, and lose weight. It took me 3-4 months to get everything done to be approved for Gastric surgery by Triwest, which was my Insurance company.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

My insurance company was very understanding and responded very quickly to the surgery request

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

4 days in the hospital was my hospital stay. My stay in the hospital was very nice and informative

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

no complications

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I felt relieved and that there was a light at the end of the tunnel..No anxiety..just relief that there was a solution to get rid of the weight and the type 2 diabetes in my life

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

The first few weeks were a little rough. I did not sleep to well, and got up often during the night. I did have a bout with constipation and my hemmoroids flared up. When they did settle down every thing got better

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

This site helped a lot. I read on this site everyday and listened to the very kind people on this site. I listened to my Dr, and to my NUT.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

My scars are what were explained to me..Several of them and they are healing just fine

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

There have been several what I call stalls in my weight loss, but with drinking all my water and exercising I do eventually start losing again. It is a constant battle each and every day

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Not really...My friends seem to be happy that I am losing the weight finally and am taking care of my health...
