Do not stand at my grave and weep, "I am not there, I do not sleep." I am thousand winds that blow; "I am the diamond glints on the snow, "I am the sunlight on ripened grains; "I am the gentle autumn's rain. "When you awake in the morning's hush, "I am the swift uplifting rush "Of the quiet birds in circled flight. "I am the soft star that shines at night." Do not stand at my grave and cry. "I am not there; I did not die AuthorUnknown-kristi

I got this note from Joan's sister on 6/5/00. Hello - I wanted to e-mail you and let you know about my sister, Joan Williams. It is very hard for me to write this note to you for I am still mourning the loss of my sister and my best friend. I was with Joan through her entire "Journey to Healthy". From the first day she began her research to the day she died. My feelings are mixed about this procedure but I am well aware that this procedure has worked for thousands of people. My only advise is to PLEASE do your homework and PLEASE ask LOTS of questions. If you don't feel right seek help IMMEDIATELY. I am not trying to scare you, I know that this is a very personal decision, I am just trying to tell you to be AWARE. All we know at this time is that Joan did not die of a heart attack or a blood clot. She had developed a leak following her first surgery and had to be opened back up. As a result of the leak, she developed Peritonitis. We are awaiting the autopsy results as to the exact cause of her death. I am not sure at this time if I will be able to disclose any more information than I have already given, but if I can I will certainly get back with you. I do believe that it is EXTREMELY important that the folks that are researching this procedure know of the risks and possible outcome of this surgery. If you would be so kind as to let the other WLS folks know what happened to Joan I would appreciate it. Joan's former employer has been receiving several e-mails from WLS members and I know they are trying to respond, but not sure how much information they are providing. Joan's husband is terribly grief stricken, as we all are, and I'm trying to prevent him from having to answer any questions. I know that Joan corresponded with you quite a bit just by our conversations, so I looked your name up on the WLS website and decided you would be the best person to contact. I know Joan felt great comfort in confiding with others undergoing the WLS procedure and I believe she would want everyone to know what has happened. My heart goes out to you as I know you are approaching your surgery date. I will be thinking about you and will say a special prayer for you. Joan is watching out for you - I know she is :) Thanks in advance for passing this along to all Joan's WLS friends. Donna K. I tried to contact Joan to get some feedback about her surgery. I was emailed back and told that she passed away on May 15th. The person who emailed me was from her work place and did not give any details.
