Question:
Is anyone losing as slow as me?
I had sugery on 4/30/01 approx: 4 months ago, I have only lost about 52 lbs,,This is very depressing cause it is so slow, for the last 2 weeks I havent lost, I actually gained 3 to 4 lbs.. Is anyone having the same problem? my start weight was 226..I heard the smaller the person the slower the loss, but this is just alittle to slow.. Help In a state of depression! — Sheryl K. One thing for sure, I hope when I am post op and talking about depression,
someone will tell me to get back on my antidpressant. My depressions have
nothing to do with my weight. It is a chemical imbalance and I will need
meds for the rest of my life. Try it, you'll like it.

I had open rny on March 21,2001.I have slowly but surely lost since. My
starting weight was 253.I am now at 184.I sometimes loose only two to three
pounds a week to ten days at a time.No sagging skin is the payoff for slow
loss.Keep up the work and you wont be sorry!

Another slow looser here! Surgery May 22--lost 42 lbs. I have stopped
worrying about it and stopped getting on the scale. It's best to just
accept it and enjoy the loss of 52 lbs. I bet you look great and feel a
lot better!

I think I am a slow looser also. I am a year post op and have only lost 106
lbs, but I also have severe lymphedema in both legs. I have gone down 3
dress sizes, so I am grateful for that. I also started out at 535. It is
really disoooocouraging some times when I hear of someone with a greater
loss, but that is life!!

I FELT LIKE THE PRESIDENT OF THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB!!! I haven't lost any in
the last couple of weeks and have actually gained a couple of pounds (it is
that time of the month though). I am 4 months out and down 51 pounds. I
feel great and look better but I want more gone. I started at 253 and am
at 202. I just feel like everyone else is doing so well and I am going to
be a failure. It helps to know I am not alone. The girls at work are so
proud of me and to put things in perspective took a polaroid shot of me and
held it next to my before pic. This really helped my dismal mood and
helped me put it in perspective. Lots of Love to all us slow losers.

I am 14 mo post-op and have gone from 265 to 178. I have gone from a size
24/26 to 14/16 pants and a 10/12 dress. I really thought that by my year
anniversary I would be down 100 lbs. but no such luck. Am I depressed
about it? Not really, especially when I see my reflection in the mirror, I
think I look ok. Would I like to drop some more weight? Yes since I think
that 179 is still a lot to be carrying around, but if I don't I am NOT a
failure. I can go to any store and run in and buy a pair of pants. That
was my goal. I still have a few more months before I reach that 2 year
mark.

try not to panic, it will come off, I am 2 years post-op, I went through
the same thing, you wonder if it's really going to work for you, it will!!.
some months you may lose slower, but over the long haul, it will come off.I
a 42 have been big my whole life, failed at all other attemps, so I know
what you are going through, but the bottom line is the surgery works(smile)
2 yrs post-op open rny--5 months post-op tummy tuck, arm lift and thigh
lift, got one flat stomach I would like to add!!!

I had surgery just after you did, started at about the same weight as you,
and I am not that far ahead of you in pounds lost, but I am ECSTATIC with
my weight loss because I have lost more than 50% of my excess weight in 4
months. I don't know how tall you are--hopefully taller than my 5 foot
1!--but think about how close you are to your goal in only 4 months! If you
only have 100 or so pounds to lose you are not going to lose it as fast as
someone who has 300 to lose. So congratulations! You're doing great! Go
celebrate your achievement and keep at it!

I could have written this question! Hopefully you will have the smae end
result as me. I started at 228, 5'3". I lost much slower than most
anyone - it seemed. Sometimes I gained a few pounds and it seemed horrible
because you just don't know that the whole this won't just stop working for
you. But here I am plateaus, gains, losses and all at my goal wieght 10
1/2 months out. I've lost 93# and am 135#. I wear an 8 or a 10 petite and
am very pleased. Just keep the faith drink the water, take the
supplements, get in the exercise (at least some of the time) and the
statistics show that you will get there. Make sure to take montly pictures
front and side to give you a reality check. Also you might compare you're
weight loss to others by % not # as you're getting closer to your goal than
some of the others are able to get.
Good Luck!

Sheryl, I know exactly how you feel. I had my surgery - open rny - on May
7, 2001. I have only lost 52 pounds, but I feel 100 times better.. I am
only 5'1" and weighed 273 the day I went in for surgery, today I am
221. I feel great. I wish my loss was a little faster but I don't and
havent had any surgery related problems. I haven't vomitted once since my
surgery, so the way I look at it is I am losing, I feel good and that is
all that counts. I thank God everyday for taking care of me. Another
thing, my skin is not hanging half as bad as I thought it would, maybe
because of the slow loss???
