Question:
I am 2.5yr post and in the last few months my urine has had a very strong smell.
I am concerned that I may not be getting some nutrient that my body needs or even too much of something. If anyone else has experienced this please let me know what the problem was that you had. Thanks, Vicki — vmize (posted on October 26, 2004)

I am 14 1/2 months post-op and I still get ketosis, that strong urine smell
when I am about to lose some weight. Or it could be a 100 things, maybe a
yeast infection, that has a strong fishy order. If it is a strong amonania
smell, it might be high blood sugar. If it continues, you might want to see
your pcp.

Hi Vicki,
When the ammonia smell is noticable to me, I load up on water. this does
the trick for me.
Good luck,
Loriann

Have you changed your diet? Example, I love onions but it sure makes my
urine smell. Also, any chance you are dehydrated?

Most likely you are not getting enough liquids or you have a kidney
infection. You might not have burning on urination if your kidneys are
infected and not your bladder. Call your PCP ASAP. Prolonged infection can
permantently damage your kidneys.
