Question:
What type of butter do you guys use?

My mom has been using I can't believe it's not butter? But I think there has to be something healthier out there. And is this I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, margarine or butter?    — Snowflake_Princess (posted on July 29, 2004)

Trisha, I went to baking school, and we had to do a chemical analysis on both butter and margarine. Did you know that margarine is one molecule away from the formula for plastic? Scary! I'm biased, but I say butter is the best bet! Blessings, dina

I use butter sparingly. I try to stick as close to "natural" foods as possible. IMO, a little butter is better.

I don't use it much, but when I do, real butter is the only way to go. YUMMMMMM. Land-O-Lakes has a new spreadable butter that I like as well :).

I like the Land O Lakes Light Whipped Butter. Goes great on breadsticks. If I'm going to eat something like that I want the real stuff.

RNYers malabsorb fat, so its real butter for me, and it helps lube things and keep me regular.:) Honestly I added canola oil to my diet which solved my very hard stools. Idea came about after getting diarrea from greasy onion rings.

I don't use it very often, but when I do, I use that new Land of Lakes spreadable butter. The brand 'I can't believe it's not butter' is a margarine.

I like Brummel and Brown. It's made with yogurt. They have the butter spread, and they also have flavored spreads that are really good on low carb toast (cinnamon, blueberry, and strawberry). As far as for on veggies, I like the spray butter. I liked it better than regular butter when I was pre-op, too, especially on corn on the cob. It stayed on the cob better, and it was tasty, too. Even now, I used the spray butter on the occasions that I treat myself to air popped popcorn.

I wish I could remember who to credit this quote to, but "I trust a cow more than I trust a chemist". Real butter all the way for me. I use so little that I'm not worried about the fat content. And, there's no way I'm going to eat that artificial, processed stuff. It's still fat (often worse fat that that in butter), plus goodness-knows what else.

Butter for me too - I read somewhere that Margarine was 'bad' as well as I can't believe it not butter because it's not. If you leave that product out or margarine - you will see how it separates into a foreign-like blob - it does the same thing inside of you. A little butter won't hurt. I also like the reply about Cow vs. the Chemist.

Real butter. Margarine is high in cholesterol.

I use butter so infrequently that when I do, I use the real stuff. I cook mostly with olive oil when oil or butter are called for in a recipe.

You can't win--- butter and margarine are --in large amounts-- not good for anybody (high amounts of cholesterol, saturated fat, trans-fat, etc, etc, etc). So, use what tastes best to you but use sparingly. I use butter for the taste but I use it infrequently.

I use Smart Balance. It has no trans fatty acids or hydrogenated oils. It's not very smooth to spread right out of the fridge but if you let it warm for a few minutes it does better. Smart Balance also has cooking spray kind of like Pam. And also cooking oil.
