Question:
Do you think the new Natural Lays Potato Chips are ok to eat after surgery?
I'm 3months post-op and would like to try the new Natural Lays Potato Chips. Do you think they would be ok to eat? Has anyone tried them, and if so do you like them and do they taste any different? — Snowflake_Princess (posted on June 13, 2003)

I tasted the tortilla chips and they were wonderful. However, I have since
pretty much stopped simple carbs as I am a confirmed carb addict. And
also, my experience is that crispy foods such as chips, crackers, etc. can
be eating in huge volume as they essentially dissolve after chewing and you
never feel full. So if you're strong enough to just eat a few, enjoy!

Take it from another confirmed carb addict, scottiemaam is right on the
money . . . try to avoid chips unless you are absolutely convinced that you
can have a couple and then put the bag away and forget that they are there.
When I feel like crunching, I will have some pork rinds (no carbs, a tad
of protein and you eventually remember that you're eating pig fat so you
don't eat too many) or buy a small bag of the Atkins chips (but then only
eat a few at a time).
Good luck.

I wouldn't start the snacking/carbs thing. It just starts the ball rolling
and the cravings come back. My only regret is testing the waters on junk
food. Remember everything has calories and potato chips are empty calories.
If I get started on potato chips there is an empty bag and a weight gain
the next day.

Here's another suggestion; on another site someone gave this recipe for
'chips' that's just cheese. I use full-fat cheeses as they are more
filling. It's called Crispy Cheese. Put shredded cheddar cheese on a
baking sheet (put it on Reynolds Release foil, you could use Pam), spread
in
single layer and sprinkle lightly with seasoned salt. Bake at 325 until
browned, about 20 minutes (keep checking). Cool and break in to 'chips.'
Satisfies the crunch and practically no carbs. This isn't my recipe, as I
said, so I can't take credit for it.

Since I've never been a big chips (or salty foods) eater I can get away
with eating a chip or two or even three with my meal and not consuming a
whole bunch. Think really hard about how much you enjoyed chips pre-op and
how much self-control you realistically think you can exercise now with the
temptation.
