I just had gall bladder surgery a week ago and I was wondering how long I should wailt before I have my WLS. Is there a certain amount of time that should pass between having surgery or does it matter? Any advice would be appreciated. — Monette L. (posted on August 13, 2002)

I share your pain! I had a gallbladder attack a month or so ago and didn't
have a WLS date yet. It was awful! A full night at the ER, slept all
morning, went and had an ultrasound to confirm and then my surgeon's office
called and scheduled me in. I was soooo excited. I figured he would know
how bad I felt and he was going to do my WLS really, really soon ---
WRONG!!! He informed me my date is 9/16 and that if I need to have my
gallbladder out now, he can do it but can't do the WLS until 9/16, no ifs,
ands or buts. Sooooo, here I am waiting. My gallbladder reminds me it's
still there but I've been pretty okay since the first attack. I may
actually make it....... If you can get a WLS date set soon along with the
gallbladder, then by all means do it. From what my surgeon told me, it was
unlikely that I would die or have major problems in these few months since
I was just having my first attack. BUT watch your skin and make sure
you're not jaundiced. If you are, RUN to the ER or surgeon.
