Question:
I am 15 months post op and in the past 3-4 days I have experienced
at odd times cold sweats with dizziness. The first time I noticed it I thought it was because I had not eaten. Today it happened again about 10 minutes after I ate 5 pistachio nuts earlier in the day I had eaten alot more than 5 with no ill side effects. About 1 hour before that I had a cup of coffee. I have dumped before and it resembles that but I had dumped before after I ate a large cookie. This time I had not eaten anything with sugar. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? — susan V. It could be something as simple as a nutritional deficiency...just a shot
in the dark lol. I know that a potassium deficiency can cause dizziness.
So can a magnesium deficiency and a few others. Have you had labs done
recently?

Those are signs of dehydration. A note to all...with the major heat wave
hitting the entire country, ALWAYS carry a water bottle with you &
drink, drink, drink!

Are you eating ENOUGH? I am 14 mos out and now don't always eat as often as
I should. Hypoglycemia feels like dumping because that is what dumping IS.
Maybe your blood sugar is getting too low. 5 pistachios is not very much.
Next time it happens try sucking on a hard candy or drinking a few ounces
of orange juice. If that makes you feel better chances are it is low blood
sugar. I know that it makes me feel really crappy when that happens to me!

I would agree with Cheri. If I drank coffee on an empty stomach, even
before surgery, I would get really shaky and hot and need to have something
with sugar in it right away. I wasn't always like this. It was a gradual
process that eventually got to the point that if I wanted a cup of coffee,
I needed to have it with a meal, so I wouldn't get a low blood sugar
attack. This happens to my husband and sister as well. Good luck!

You might want to pop onto the Grad list, for those 1+ yrs out. Great place
to lurk, but you are now 1 yr out. Reactive hypoglycmia seems to be
something that "happens". Hit us (my dh & me) every now
& then, but just when we think we have it figured out, it's 6 months
before it does again. There are people who've made it their
"mission" to find out more about this annoying problem for us.
(this is not MY mission, so I'm just reading) Takes quite awhile to
disconnect from "what I did to myself" to "this just
happens". http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG

I think maybe you should have your sugar levels checked. It sounds like
they may be too low. Just a thought. Have a great day.
