Well let me tell you how you feel when you are lactose intolerant. I knew
after I had my surgery nearly two years ago that i couldn't drink milk. But
today I just wanted to make sure it wasn't my imagination. I bought me some
skim milk to eat with my cereal, well let me tell you it did a number on my
stomach all day I was gasey and was running to the bathroom every few
minutes. It is a little better now but I am still gasey. I tried to eat
string cheese while i was on my way to indiana to visit my sister and had
to stop so many times to go to the bathroom. That is how I know i am
lactose intolerant. I told my kids they were going to have to drink the
rest of my milk. I bought me some lactaid. I don't know how anyone else
feel but it made me go to the bathroom and it made my stomach hurt to no
end.

My stomach hurts and I throw up. Although, I can tolerate some cheeses in
moderation.

I became lactose intolerant after surgery. I first noticed by feeling very
sick after eating yogurt. If I drink milk even lactose free milk I have
terrible gas and the runs. I can no longer eat ice cream. I do okay with
cheese but I don't eat much cause high in fat. If one is lactose intolerant
their body does not produce an enzyme used to break down the sugar in
dairy. 90% of Asian Americans are lactose intolerant.

I too became lactose intolerant after surgury. I knew I was lactose
intolerant because any dairy product caused near instant diarreha and gas.
I tried lactaid and even soy milk with nearly the same results. Small price
to pay for a longer and healthier life!

I was already lactose intolerant prior to surgery so when my surgeon stated
to stay away from milk, I had no problems in sticking to that. When I
would have milk before surgery, I developed diarrhea, gas, bloating, and
was miserable. I used lactaid and that worked for awhile, but became
resistant to those so just completely stayed away from milk. Now following
surgery, I do stay completely away from milk. Cottage cheese and block
cheese do not give me any problems at all now after surgery. I do,
however, only eat small amounts of these (1 oz).
