Question:
Has anyone else had chronic diaherra while still on the liquid diet?

I have... and I am up to pureed foods. I talked to my doc today and he told
me to try lactose fred milk when I make my shakes and see if that helps. If
it doesn't, then he wants me to bring it up to my surgeon asap. We
shouldn't have cronic diahrra after the first three weeks post op. Good
Luck!

Yes, I did when I was on the liquid diet. I had too much
milk sugars and it was causing diaherra. I was mixing
skim milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast & to give it
some extra kick I also added yogurt. After I found out
what was causing it I stuck with no more than 10 grams of
sugar per meal or snack.

I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks and had chronic diarrhea for the first 1
or two following surgery. The reason for this is all the liquids you have
in your system mixes with the medications given to you during your hospital
stay as well as the anesthesia and major surgery your abdominal area just
went through. Once your intestines finally wake up, boy do they wake up
and let you know they are still around! But the good thing, is it only
lasted a little while. I have not had any sugar or milk products that
would have caused this. I maintain a strict sugar free/milk free diet so I
know this was not the cause.
