Question:
How long should my mom stay to help?
My mom is flying from Florida to Michigan to stay with me post-op, and I just got my surgery date. We talked today to make plans & we're both wondering how long she should stay. I told her I'd check with other post-ops for advice. I'm having open RNY & I'm 27 with no previous surgeries. Thanks! — Claire P. (posted on July 20, 2001)

My husband was going to take 1 week off, but the company decided to take
Christmas/New Year week off, so He was home with me for 2 weeks. It was
wonderful. He cooked, and I won't say cleaned for us, he pushed me to stay
active. If your mom can stay 2 weeks it would be great, if not 1 week
after you get home if you are having an open should do it.

My mother in law stayed with me for a week after I got out of the hospital.
She was there mainly to help with my 2 year old and cleaning etc.. But when
the week was over I was sorta glad to see her go because I was ready to
start doing for myself. I had open 5-15-01 down 40 pounds. Good Luck
