Question:
I'm having the distal RNY. Do they remove the excess intestine or leave it in there?

Dr Oh is one of my doc's too. He actually is quite dear once you get past
that initial distance thing. They never TAKE OUT a hunk of intestine,
unless it is diseased in some way. They just reroute things. I am
extremely distal, more than they do today. I'm delighted.

They bypass a long or short stretch of intestine. This portion bypassed is
still connected to the 'old' stomach but no nourishment is pulled out in
this stretch because no nournishment passes through. The only thing
passing through it is gastric juices which are still being produced in the
'old' stomach. This acid meets the food you've eaten at the 'Y' in the
intestine where the other portion of the intestine that is connected to the
new pouch meets the bypassed intestine (thus the Y in the RNY). If they
bypass a little bit of intestine, the "Y" is near the stomach, if
they bypass a lot of intestine, the "Y" is way on down the line.
