Question:
I'm one month post-op and awakening at night with muscle aches!
I've notived about the last two weeksor so that my muscles ache. it isn't cramps. it feels like growing pains used to. They aren't relieved my strectching or position change or anything. They are very weird pains. i'm taking my protein and vitamins, i'm not necessarily more active. Do you think it could be a nutricional lack? thanks. — [Deactivated Member] (posted on October 28, 2000)

Whenever I have leg cramps it is usually my calcium or potassium is down.
You really need to call your Dr. and have them check your blood. Don't let
it go, remember our bodies will let us know when something is wrong!

Since you are only 1 month post-op, I'd suspect potassium, too. Some labs
would tell you exactly where you are, but if your doc won't run them just
yet, some over-the-counter potassium might help. Seems to be common among
us, so our initial post-op instructions were to add potassium and magnesium
if leg cramps occured. Kind gives me the idea that it was anticipated,
huh?

what does you doctor say? You should ask him for advice.

At about six weeks post op I experienced some leg and arm cramping during
the night. My doctor suggested that I take Magnesium Oxide. However,
before I ever went and bought them, my cramping stopped. My opinion is
that our bodies are going through shock, withdrawal and total amazement
like it has never gone through. It just does some weird stuff from time to
time! However, I would check with your doctor to see what his take on this
is. My motto is, "If I trusted this man enough to cut me wide open
and alter my body like he did, I need to trust his opinion on things going
on with my body after the surgery!"
