Question:
If I'm having soup for a meal, does that mean that I can't have anything solid also?
Does soup count as drinking with your meal? Can you drink other liquids with your meal if you're having soup? — Terry M. (posted on September 9, 2000)

I asked my doctor this very question and he said as long as it was
only the broth to count it as water. Good luck!

Since soups usually have a lot of liquid, I usually strain off most of it
so that I'm able to eat enough. I do this for minestrone, lentil soup,
noodle soup, etc. If you're eating the soup w/ all the liquid (unless it's
something like split pea where that's all there is) then you're going to
get full a lot sooner and will miss out on the nutrients in the soup's
ingredients. And you probably shouldn't drink other beverages just because
you're eating soup. Just my opinion.
