Question:
I'm on my way!!! I received my insurance approval on Thursday ...
... and it's taken me until now to figure out how to post my surgery date here!! Oh well, I guess some of us are a bit slower. lol. It took 24 hours from the time the paperwork was sent to Blue Choice (my ins.) to when they called me with the approval. Before they approved me though, they said that my policy was too new (we switched the policy from my husband's name to mine when he left his job so we could both devote our time to running the business and they never connected them) and that I am not able to be approved for the surgery because it falls under the pre-existing condition clause. Being fat is a pre-existing condition?? I laughed so hard when they told me that I nearly peed. It all worked out once I explained the policy change to them (I guess a company that thinks that fat is a pre-existing condition also can't link my old policy with my new one). My surgery is scheduled for 9/26 and I'll be having open RNY with Dr. William Morris in Rochester, NY. — Terry M. (posted on September 9, 2000)

Terry, I got a real smile on my face when I read your statement that being
obese was a pre-existing condition. Now I've heard it all. I've been
overweight since I was a teenager and know your struggle. I was very lucky
in the fact that I got insurance approval within a week. I have Etna
Insurance and was so shocked when they said ok without a struggle. My
surgery is scheduled for October 18 so I have a little longer to wait than
you. My surgery will be done in Augusta, Me. by Dr. Aslam. I want to wish
you the very best and hope everything goes great for you. We may have had
a "pre-existing condition" but now we can look forward to the
quality life we all deserve. God Bless!!!!!
