Question:
what pre-op health changes should i make?
I read somewhere onthis site that a weight loss of 5-10 pounds is a 'proven'aid in deflecting negative post op complications. is this true? does bmi change this # loss. also, what vitamins, echinacea, zinc, vitamins c mega doses does anyone think will help ward off respiratiory probs? — [Deactivated Member] (posted on August 13, 2000)

I began an exercise program a few weeks before my surgery. The additional
strenghth in my stomach and legs helps getting up from chairs and beds
while your tummy is tender. My favorite exercise is putting some good
music on and dancing!

My dr insisted that I give up caffeine at least 4 wks prior to
surgery...also suggested taking vitamins and testing out protein shakes
beforehand, as well. I like ProComplex...and the Ultra PurePro Shakes
(canned) from Worldwide Sport Nutrition. The canned drinks are a godsend!
I just came back from a holiday weekend with my husband where we stayed in
a hotel...took the canned drinks with me and chilled them throughout the
day in an icebucket.
Caffeine, water, vitamins, exercise (walking!) and protein drinks...focus
on those and you should be sailing after surgery
Good luck,
