Question:
are any recent post-ops (a month or less) having this problem
I am 19 days post op. I have lost 25lbs, and I am so happy, but I am having a problem feeling full. Could somethinng be wrong with my staple line? Are there other symptoms? I don't eat more than my 2 0z at a time ,but I am not full on this. The only time I feel full is when I drink a protein shake over 1 hr. I am diligent about not eating tofast. Is this normal? Is it just part of the learning process with having a new stomach? Any advice would be appreciated Valerie — Valerie B. (posted on June 10, 2000)

I am 8 weeks post op and from the firsttime I ate until today I have a full
feeling when I eat. Sometimes I haven't eaten the full 2 ozs. At your
stage of recovery I remember not wanting to hardly eat anything it took me
several weeks before I could tolerate 2 ozs. I had an Open RNY procedure
in April. Talk with your WLS Surgeons staff about your concerns.

It takes some people about a month or so to feel that full feeling. My
friend Sue had that problem at first and was worried but it all worked out
for her. I guess I had it too, but I don't remember it so well. Now, just
over 2 months since surgery, it is easy to tell when I've eaten too much
(even a bite or two too much). But, it does take some concentrating
sometimes and I have to remember to enjoy my food - even though I don't get
to enjoy it as long as I used to cause I can't eat that much of it. Relax
and I think you are doing just fine. By the way, I eat 1/2 to 3/4 cups of
food per meal normally. Two ounces, wow, that's not much at all!

Hi, I am 2.5 weeks post op and am just learning the fullness feeling! It
is very *different* from the old way of feeling full. Remember, your
stomach is neatly tucked under you sternum and that is where you will feel
it! You are doing great!

First of all Valerie, let me congratulate you on your weight loss.
You are doing wonderfully! What you are experiencing is perfectly
normal. I had the same thing happen to me. I also never really
felt hungry unless it was first thing in the morning. I think that
you just need to get used to your new stomach. The book I was given
when I had surgery mentioned that you may not feel full after eating,
especially at first so to just follow the diet and it should resolve
itself after some time. I feel full occasionally, I am 10 weeks postop,
and it could be months before I get that feeling all of the time.
Keep up the good work!
