Question:
Has any Pre-Op ever had success with Meridia?
I found my answer for Xenical in the information library; however there isn't anything listed for Meridia.. Any comments? Thank you, — Peri B. (posted on July 26, 1999)

Meridia is fairly new .. I've never heard of the other one, but ... did you
try Phen Phen or Redux when they were available? They didn't help me .. I
gained weight on them!

I DID TAKE MERIDA FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. I FOUND THAT IT
DOES WORK BUT VERY VERY SLOWLY. I LOST ABOUT 3 POUNDS EVERY 2 WEEKS AT
FIRST AND THEN 1 OR 2 WEEKS I DIDN'T LOOSE ANYTHING. I BECAME DEPRESSED
AND MY DOC TOOK ME OFF. THAT IS WHEN I BEGAN CONTEMPLATING WLS. I HAVE
JUST BEEN APPROVED FOR SURGERY AND WOULD DEFINATELY NOT RECOMMEND USING
MERIDIA. ONCE I DID GO OFF OF THE MERIDA I STILL WATCHED WHAT I ATE AND
STILL GAINED WEIGHT BACK. HOPE THIS ANSWER HELPS.

I was on Meridia for several months (at a cost of over $100/month) which I
paid for. It worked well in the beginning supressing my appetite for
sweets especially. But after a short time (a couple of months), I noticed
it was not really helping anymore. I also felt it made me feel very angry
and emotional. I was very uncomfortable with that so I stopped. I did
lose about 15 lbs. on it and have kept it off for about 3 months. I do not
see it as an answer losing a lot of weight. I began looking into wls after
going off Meridia. Good Luck!

I found it really reduced my appitite for 2 weeks - 3 weeks max. After
that, I didn't feel the reduction in appitite. I lost about 14 lbs. the
first month. Nothing the second. I also tried X-enical after Meridia, but
couldn't tolerate the side effects and didn't lose much at all.
