Question:
Has anyone had WLS who has had ulcers?
I have Ulcers all along my stomach wall and in my lower intestines. What happens to the ulcers after WLS? — Carl R. (posted on July 7, 1999)

Hi Carl,
I understand the ulcer in the stomach lining is left the way it is if it
isn't really bad. With nothing to irritate it, it will heal itself. The
area with the ulcertive streaks of the intestins might be bypasses and you
won't have to worry about it, or the area might be removed and to spead up
the healing process.
Good luck

I have had ulcers since forever, too. After surgery, the stomach acid was
confined, so the reflux and that kind of thing stopped. HOWEVER, with any
bypass or RNY, there's the risk of marginal ulcer. That forms in the outlet
between the new pouch and "plugged in" intestine. I've had 3 of
those. I still take Zantac and have to be careful, but I came our ahead in
the long run! I'd rather have ulcers at 112 lbs than at 262!
