Question:
How do I research doc's background in Mexico? Pending malpractice suits, deaths etc.?

Thats exactly it how do you? That is why I would not venture to Mexico.
What kind of post op care will they provide being way down in Mexico. And
how do you know how much training they have had? I've read peoples
profiles that had their surgery in Mexico and I can't believe how some
people go there alone to have a major surgery. Please research our own
doctors here in the states first before going that route. You may find
that you can afford it here in the states.

Hi. Unlike here in the U.S. where you can get a full malpractice report
and background check from your state medical board, all of that is
impossible in Mexico.

I contacted all of the societies/organizations that my Mexican surgeon
listed as being a member of to check his status there. I contacted the
American Medical Association and they gave me pointers on how to research a
doctor in another country, specifically Mexico. My Mexican surgeon
practices relatively close to the California border. I was encouraged by
the American Medical Association to contact the local Medical Boards in the
largest city (San Diego) close to the Mexican border where my surgeon
practices and also the California Medical board. I was told that if there
were problems with this surgeon then they could be reported by Americans to
their local board or to the American city closest to the Mexican border
where he performs surgery. My search was very successful. I took
probably two weeks to research/wait for responses. I just started
calling/emailing agencies and everyone I contacted, I asked if they had any
suggestions for how to do further research on my doctor. I followed up on
every lead. I also spoke to several of his American patients, whom I
located on this board. I wanted to hear from Americans who had been there,
met him, what their experience was, how they felt about the hospital,
doctor, staff, etc. I am SO GLAD I went to Mexico for my wls and plastics.
I found two outstanding surgeons. American definitely does not have a
monopoly on good medical care. All of my follow-up has been done locally,
by my PCP so aftercare hasn't been an issue at all. Best of luck. If I
can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
