Question:
Has anyone tried this new one, Propolene to get rid of those last..
10-20 pounds? Since WLS has "blossomed", I'm noticing more and more 'weight loss pills' are on the market. I'm almost persuaded, but I'm scared. I'm MORE SCARED to gain more weight back than what I have already. Ok, now, be honest, how many of you (us) have tried any of the follwing? There's Zetacap, Trim Spa, Total Lean, Thermagenic, and Propolene? I'm open for suggestions...My surgery was September 3, 2002, and I'm almost back to where I started. I'm gonna get this stuff off me some kinda 'weigh' (way). Let's talk! LAP Proximal RNY 5'2" 265/182/115-135; Hadiyah~~~~a.k.a., — yourdivaness (posted on April 23, 2005)

Hadiyah - I expereinced a fairfly significnt weith gain 2 winters ago and
started to panic, thinking that I had ruptured my staple line. Actually I
wasn't thinking it, I was convinced of it. After an endoscopy that revealed
I hadn't I had to face reality and admith that I had slid back into my very
old habits and had gained weight the old fashioned way - by overeating and
not exercising. I immediately began losing again by cutting out my carbs,
increasing my protein and water intake, and last but certainly no least, I
started to exercise again. I HATE EXERCISING!!!!! I started by walking
literally 1-2/10 of a mile - I am now up to 3-5miles a day and even run a
little. And I have taken off all of the excess wieght and even a couple of
extra pounds... Sorry sister, I wish I could give you the magic trick
(trusr me if there had been one I would have found it!!!), but I had to
recognize the slide down that old slippery slope into overeating again. I
wish you the very best of luck! Kim open VBG 12/00

I have tried a few. Watch out for some of them, especially Total Lean,
which contain white willow bark...it is basically the same as aspirin which
will give us ulcers. Trim Spa made me so hungry I thought I would eat my
arm off. I did have some success with Zantrex- which you can get at GNC, or
super cheap on e-bay- but it only supresses your appetite if you take it
every day, so the moment you stop, back comes the pounds. Seriously, the
best thing I have found is to walk for 30 minutes a day and snack on beef
jerky all day. Drink a lot of fluids though because the jerky has a lot of
salt. I asked my new primary care doctor about a new prescription appetite
suppressant that I wanted to try and he told me "you're young, just
work it off". I hope he gets fat. haha

No, I didn't try any pills to lose the last of the weight. I was too afraid
to. I am on seizure medication and any of those can interfere and set off
seizures. I am also schizoaffective and they can cause a psychotic episode
with the meds I am on. So it has to be just the food. I did gain back 100
lbs. I originally lost 225, became an alcoholic (couldn't eat any more) and
gained 100 back. But have, through just watching what I eat again and not
drinking any more am back on track. It is slow going. Frustrating at times.
It will be 9 years in June. But today I am better than I have ever been.

I've tried a lot of the OTC weight loss products. Trimspa was alright for
about the first 2 weeks. It also made me dizzy and made my toenails brittle
which is a sign of malabsorption. Going back to basics did not work for me
as my appetite has grown way past using a protein shake as a meal. I just
decided to chuck it all and recently joined LA weight loss center. That
will make me more accountable and hopefully help me get control over my
eating again. I have only gained about 12 lbs in the past 3 years but I
figured I'd best get a handle on it now before it got out of control. Try
weight watchers or some other program that will give you counseling be it
group or one on one and get back on track. We all know WHAT to do, we
sometimes just have trouble DOING it!!

I can understand where you are coming from. However, take a little time and
really think about this.If all those pills and things worked, would any of
us have needed surgery? wouldn't it be all over the news that a magic
weightloss breakthrough had occurred? and I do not mean just infomercials
and advertisements everywhere. What about your surgeons after care plan?
In your profile it says they are very committed to after care and I would
think that would mean meeting with a dietician to go over your diet and
needs. Maybe before trying potentially dangerous pills, write down every
thing that goes in your mouth for 2 weeks and bring it to the dietician.
Also if it is just 10-20 pounds, have you had any PS yet? That may take off
a bunch of that weight. Another thing to consider - is your goal really
realistic? Bless you and good luck. Hannag in there and be healthy!

All propolene is is an herbal supplement called 'glucomannan' which you can
get for around $7 at your drugstore. Or just take Metamucil every day, it
does the same thing. Unfortunately what you need to do is diet and
exercise - there are no short cuts or miracle pills.
