Question:
Has anyone had good results from using an Elliptical machine. How often did you have
excercise on it and for how long. I am convinced that I will have to excer. at least 4 times a week to lose anymore weight. I am eating ok, proteins, water, etc. So it just has to be excercise. I have been walking and not losing either. any suggestions? — Rita B. (posted on April 9, 2004)

I go to spinning class 3 times a week and work out with a personal trainer
2 times a week. The only way I now lost weight is to cut back the
calories. I have to stay at about 900-1000 calories and do the excercise
classes. I'm 18 months post op. 272-148

You have to shake up your exercise routine. The body gets used to the same
exercise and then doesn't seem to respond as well. I use the Eliptical
runner 1/2 hr, then some weight lifting 4x/wk. I run/walk 2x/wk 2.5 miles
on the other days. One day off. I choose those type of exercise because
where I gain is in the butt and upper thighs. I think it gives me a great
workout. On the eliptical I start low going 5 min forward, 5 back, then
raise the step and again 5 min, and so on until I'm doing the top level.
That way all of the legs/butt gets a workout. Good Luck!

I love the elliptical trainer and I work out on it for 40 minutes 4-5
times per week. When you first start working out on it, don't be hard on
yourself if you can only do a few minutes. When I first started, I could
only do 6 minutes and I thought I was going to die! You quickly build up
your endurance though and I think it took me about a month to work up to 30
minutes. After RNY, I was walking, then walking and playing tennis, then
when my loss stalled again, I switched to the elliptical trainer. You will
notice a difference. Good luck to you!

I love the Elliptical machine because it burns calories fast, is low empact
for knees and back and if you use the one with the moving arms, it is like
cross country sking. I use it every day, started at 10, 15 now am at 35 min
4 x's a week. It is also good for your heart I can run up the stairs now.
