Question:
I'm 2 weeks post-op,going to the bathroom fine. Has any one been able to eat(eggs,
jell-o,cottage cheese)but when it comes to drinking anything, even water i feel so full.I don't know if something is wrong or if this is normal. I know I have to drink, but it really kinda gags me. I would really appreciate some help. I am also burping alot, if that matters. — haley (posted on April 8, 2004)

It sounds like you are taking in alot of air when you drink. I had this
problem at the beginning as well and had hiccups all the time. Drinking
from a sports bottle seemed to help alot. And the dietitien told me to try
a straw, which shocked me since it was the same woman that told me in class
no straws! Also another way to get your liquids in is ice. In my first few
weeks I ate the heck out of SF popsicles . But if it gets bothersome or
painful and you start barfing call the doc right away.

I'm 3 weeks out and I'm figuring out that I have to take really small sips
of water otherwise I feel so full it hurts. I also have been burping alot
too, weird sounding burps. From what I've been told is maybe I'm eating and
drinking too fast and that I need to slow down. I don't know if this helps
you or not, but it is nice to know that someone else is going through the
same thing as myself. I can't eat pasta, eggs are okay as long as they are
mixed with something like tuna. I've only tried a little cheese and that
sat fine. I wish you the best.

Maddy it took 6 weeks for me to comfortable eat a very small portion of a
softly scrabbled egg. Also do not DRINK water, SIP it! I kept water bottle
everywhere in the house and sip each opportunity, you won't gag with small
sips throughout the day or while traveling. At 3 weeks I manage to have
cream of chicken soup (no chicken) mixed with mashed potatos, which made it
soupy. Also, you might find that leftover are not ingestible as the food
hardens each time you heat it up. I also discovered that microwave food
gets tougher each time it is heated so I used my stove a lot more.

Hi. I am 3 months post op and still get pain when I drink plain water. I
have heard that this is common. I can drink Propel water straight or
diluted and it goes down much easier. I love plain water and have been
told by my nutritionist that I'll be able to drink it again before too
long. Propel water is flavored and only has 3 carbs I think.
