Question:
Post Ops: Any of your peers on the job wanting you to go
lunch with them now that you are no longer obese? I can remember times BEFORE my WLS when absolutely NO ONE would ask me to accompany them at lunchtime. Now, looks like I have to just about schedule times (*grin*) How does that make you feel or affect you? Proximal LAP RNY 9/0/02 Hadiyah, a.k.a.~~ — yourdivaness (posted on February 1, 2004)

Actually, I have found it to be the opposite. I have found that people
would ask me to go before and now they are self-conscious about inviting
someone who has had WLS to lunch...JR

We don't go out to lunch at work, we order in, usually Chinese, Italian or
Spanish style. I was always asked as a pre-op. It took awhile after
surgery for people to see that I can still eat what they eat, just not as
much.

I was always asked as a pre-op and still am but now they get such a kick
out of watching what and how much I eat. My co-workers have been, and
still are, wonderfully supportive!

This sounds bitter as it rolls out of might mouth, but if the
"ppular" people didn't have time for you before, when you were
obese, why would you give them your time now?
Do you qualify as
being good enough to be with them now? I bet you were a great person before
your surgery too - I would be more worried about those who are still
getting left behind, still feeling like cr@p, just like we all used to.
Just my two cents, just since you asked.
Yeah, it's great to have
the extra attention when the weight goes away, but we are all the same
people inside, aren't we?

I get asked out less than before WLS. Even if I ask them to go with me,
they always seem to have something come up. I asked one lady why and she
said I made HER look bad because she ate so much more than me. She ate the
same amount that she always had but it just LOOKED like she ate way more.
Hmmm... Its their problem not mine. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 130+

The person who has treated me like that is my "never had a fat day in
her life" sister-in-law. About 15 years ago I managed to lose 80
lbs....well thats when she decides to be my buddy. So later on I put back
on the 80, plus more lbs and I am shunned again. You know what?? I don't
care!! I have lost 130 lbs since my surgery on July 11th 2003. She hasn't
laid eyes on me to see how different I look now. She is so shallow!! Her
mother taught her that its what is on the OUTSIDE that counts. Her insides
are showing and they are very ugly.

Lois, I think we have the same SIL. She could never stand the sight of me,
but now you'd think she was my best friend. She actually told me once that
she could never talk to me "Before" (read "when you were
FAT") but NOW she can talk to me and I'm her favorite SIL (we have a
big family). Lucky me.
