Question:
Concerned about slowing weight loss and falling back into bad habits
I'm 8 months out and I've lost 90 lbs. Fantastic I know - but I still have about 30 pounds left to lose. I find myself worried when the scale doesn't budge or when I have a day that I could eat all day long. Please help - I need to know that I can still lose weight and that I can overcome my old bad habits of grazing and eating poorly. — Sara L. (posted on October 17, 2003)

Of course you can still lose weight, but it is up to you at this point.
The surgery works will on its own during the first year, but loss does slow
as time goes by. You have done well, and the surgery should still continue
to work for you for several more months unless you sabotage yourself by
getting into bad habits with bad foods. Please re-examine what you did to
lose the first 90 and go back to basics. Remember no drinking with or
right after meals, protein first, lo carb and lo or no sugar, tons of water
and regular exercise. No secrets to success. I'm sure you've heard a
million times that this surgery was on our tummys and not our heads. So
true. Bad habits are hard to break but if you don't gain control, no one
will do it for you. You will have days, perhaps weeks when the scale does
not budget, or even goes up by a pound or two even when doing everything
right (my scale loved to do this to me). And you will have days when you
eat more than others-just try to make good choices.
