Question:
Do you handle the heat/humidity better after losing weight? Do you sweat less?

I'm just curious to see if you can handle being outside in the heat and humidity better after losing weight? I live in SC and its usually about 90-95 with high humidity in the summer and I cant stand it outside for more than a few minutes before I feel like Im gonna pass out. I get a headache, and overheated not to mention I sweat as soon as I step outside. Has you sweating lessened? I now sweat all the time especially on my face and I hate it. — curliequu (posted on September 7, 2003)

I went jogging (who ever thought up jogging should be punished!) with my husband this morning and got my heart rate up there but while he was literally dripping I was just barely dewy. Isn't that a pretty feminine word for sweat? I barely notice the heat but the sun does really take it out of me now more than before. I would have been sweating standing still in the shade had it been 90 degrees out pre op.

Yes, it is better but you also freeze half to death in cold weather. No insulation, i guess. I have froze all day and it is in the 70's here.

I was always hot when everyone else was freezing, I was sweating all the time. I had surgery on 4/21/03 and have lost 83 pounds to date. I now get cold when others are comfortable. I never thought that would happen. I think I have lost my insulation! LOL!

Hi Melanie, I am now 7 mths postop and before having this surgery, I couldn't stand the heat nor the humidity at all! I sould only go outside for a few minutes on a hot day and then I had to be indoors or in some kind of air condtioned place. I thougth I was going to die to because it was so hot out sometimes and my face after just a few minutes would get beat red and I would start sweating so bad, I couldn't even enjoy the outdoors without feeling like I was going to pass out! So I definetely now how you are feeling! Now since after having surgery and down 106# so far, I can honestly say that I am able to enjoy myself alot more when going outdoors on a hot day even though sometimes the weather is so dreadful and I don't want to be out in it, I can get around now alot better in it an I am able to tolerate it alot better and I don't have those same feelings as I did before, and as for the sweating thign I can say yes it has lessened quite a bit even though I have about 75# more to lose, it has gotten sooooo much better! Hope this helps and good luck to you!

Hi, I had the same problem before I had my surgery on July 28, 2003(down 45 pounds). I live in Louisiana where the humidity is total Heck! The only time I sweat is when I do exercise (mostly walk right now) but then I have to walk a half mile before I sweat. Trust me, your days of sweating will be over soon after you undergo this surgery.

You will handle the heat and humidity much better after losing weight. I used to sweat getting dressed in the mornings and now I have to work out for 1/2 hr to sweat. I think the sweating is different too. When I work out at Curves, the sweat pours off my chest mostly and it kinda looks neat! I mean, sexy. Especially with shoulder blades and a tan. Hummmmmm.

I had wls on 4/22, and noticed a huge difference this summer already. I actually feel cold sometimes when no one else is. It's great!

Hi there, Melanie! I hate to be the voice of negativity, but is hasn't changed very much for me. I can handle it a little better, but I still sweat! Anything over 50 is getting too hot for me, but I couldn't take the summer humidity. Vi. open RNY 9/23/02 down 150 lbs.

I had my surgery in February.. Used to I could just think about going outside and would sweat but since my surgery and losing weight...I don't sweat unless I am doing manuel labor .It is so nice not to be sweaty !!! I think you will see a big difference.

I definately sweat less. I'm now MUCH more comfortable outside in the heat. I didn't have any problems this summer when the temperature was 90 degrees. I felt a little hot but didn't sweat.

OH MY GOODNESS YES!!!! Pre-op I would sweat all year round. I used to sweat from drying off after a shower, going to the mailbox, getting dressed, cooking, anything. Now with over 100 pounds gone I can do anything and everything no matter how hot it is outside. I havent turned on my AC yet and anyone who has been to GA in the summer knows that says a lot!! At night I use only a fan with no problems or discomfort. Just one more reason to love WLS. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 115+ and counting

I guess I sweat less.. although I sweat a lot more now that I work out.. but that's in the gym, where you're supposed to sweat.

For me, I noticed last winter I froze, this spring and summer I've worn a jacket or sweatshirt more than I ever though I would in my life.. a big surprise -- so I guess I'm not so warm anymore. I have to admit, the prospect of this coming winter with few clothes and cooler temps makes me worry a little about how cold I'll be... just a little though.. ultimately... as a friend reminds me -- its all good.

I have noticed since I had the surgery I am always cold. Everyone laughs at me now cause I was the one that was always hot and everyone else froze. So I guess you can say you can handle the heat better.

I live in west central Florida and like you, I couldn't be outside for more than a couple minutes pre-op. I am now 5 months post-op - down 115 lbs, and I go out in mid-day and mow our yard. Takes me about an hour and a half. I sweat while I'm out there, but the point is, I am out there working hard for an hour and a half!!! Pre-op I used to keep it so cold inside my husband said you could hang a side of beef in our house. Now, I have to turn the AC up and he complains that it's too hot now! Bottom line...everyone is different - but most people I have talked with find their internal thermostat lowers a little and they are much more comfortable and can stand a little more heat as well as experience cold spells from time to time. Best Wishes!
