Question:
Has anyone tried the Nordic Track Walkfit ?
I just got a nordic track walkfit at a garage sale for $50. I have been using it but WOW, it wipes me out! I have been exercising since surgery, but this is not like a regular treadmill. I can only go for about 5 minutes then get off and do some floor exercises. I really thought I would be able to just get on there and walk for 30 mins and be done with it. I really thought my endurance was up but this is rough! I have to stop after a while because my heart rate is soaring. Has anyone else tried this walker and did you have the same results? — peggyp (posted on September 4, 2003)

I have a Walkfit and have used it for years, more so now than ever....well,
actually, not enough over these last two months. Anyway, no, the
difficulty/exertion is not your imagination. Wsing the walkfit is much
more work than an electric treadmill. With the walkfit you actually are
the one doing all of the work, not the motor. I do have some suggestions
though. First, I would clean the deck with a soft damp cloth, then oil it
(the top of the deck) down with silicone (mine came with a small bottle of
food grade silicone) and repeat with every 20-30 hours of use. Next, check
to make sure the tensioner belt isn't 'stuck' in the tightened position
(mine likes to do this even when I don't adjust the tensioner). Then,
raise the incline 4-6 inches. I know you would think that this would make
it harder but, actually, by doing this, you have gravity working for you
and the walking becomes easier. Now all there is to do is get back on and
try, try again. I started out (not using the arms at all) at about a 1.5
mph pace and walked for 15 minutes, twice a day from about day 10 post op
and have worked up to about 3 mph for 45-60 minutes. If you have any other
questions don't hesitate to email me. Hang in there it does get better!
