Question:
HELP!!!! My back is against the wall! I'm looking
for anyone that will share your menus for breakfast and things I can take to work with me for lunch that are low or NO carbs. I'm addicted to them, ok? I need help!! I'm thinking of joining a "CA" (Carbohydrates Anonymous). If there was one, I really would join it! If you would please help me out here. I know how large (no pun intended) our community is. Please, everyone, just jump on in, and help a sister out. I'm just about desperate these days. I HAVE to get this plateau moving. My 1 year anniversary is coming up September 3, 2003!1 I don't want to have to go through this another 2 months. Wanted: meal planning ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner!! PLEASE!! PLEASE!! I have nothing else left, and I feel like I'm losing this battle with the carbs. I've got to move forward with this!!I'd like to be down at least 10 more pounds, sisters and brothers! Hi,
I am 4 months out, and some of the things I keep at work are cheese,
yougurt, cottage cheese, tuna and applesauce cups. I like to keep a
variety of things in the fridge so I don't ordr in Chinese or Italian
lunches. I have also brought in hard boiled eggs. One high protein
lunch I dowell with is asliced deli turkey, ham or roast beef roled with a
slice of cheese---American or Swiss. When I do order in, I have gotten a
scoop of tuna salad over a tossed salad with the dressing on the side, OR
Chinese dumplings and I eat the meat out of them. I worry more about carbs
than fat, because I tend to get constipated and the fat in my diet keeps me
"going". Oh, another good lunch is a Boca burger or black bean
burger with a slice of cheese melted over it. I put ketchup on it and
don't eat a roll with it.

Hadiyah! I hear you, and I feel the same way. Anyway - I am looking for
new things and a friend of mine made great "sausage" patties or
flat-meatballs the other night. Mix together: ground pork, ground beef,
fresh parmesan, garlic salt (or garlic bread mixture), small pieces of red
or yellow bell peppers, additional shredded cheese if needed. He did them
up like sausage patties and fried them in a pan. They were SOOO good! I
ate one patty and was good for the night. He had more for breakfast. It's
a little fatty, but if you're RNY, you probably won't absorb the fats.
Also- I just started to have low-carb turkey wraps. The brand La Tortilla
Factory makes a super low-carb tortillas that really taste like a flat
bread. I add turkey, cheese slice, sprouts and some kind of dressing for
flavor. 3 grams of carbs and 18 grams of protein on this one! Went to
breakfast the other day and had some of a grilled ham steak with hot
mustard. YUM! My pouch handles almost anything (except cream and sugars),
so I don't know if these will work for you. I am a huge meat/pork fan, so
these are what work for me. Oh yeah-had one of my sons hotdogs (no bun)
last night just for a fun change. Not bad either. I hope no one jumps on
me for the "processed food" ideas. We have to eat! Good luck!

I think that is most of our problem is carbs. Once you start them, the ball
starts roll'n! Anyway, I go on the strict Atkins if I'm out of control or
gain 3 pounds After a couple days the cravings go away. I also lose a pound
a day on it. Good Luck!

Have you tried the 1 carb high protein snack called Just Cheese? Health
food and vitamin stores sell it in little snack size bags. Nacho cheese,
Jalapena, Sour cream and onion, Herb, white cheddar cheese. Good as a snack
and crumbled over other foods. It really fills you up too. Satisfies that
crunchy spicy craving!

It really helps if you can get past the mentality that food group A is ok
for breakfast and group B is for lunch but not vice versa. Things I've
eaten for a quickie breakfast or lunch - cold chicken leg (no skin), cold
cuts rolled up with cheese, cheese sticks, cold hard boiled eggs,
high-protein(low-sugar) cereals, leftover pork ribs, celery smothered in
peanut butter or cream cheese, Granny Smith apple slice with peanut butter,
bowl of chicken (or turkey) soup (chicken, celery, onion, carrot,
seasonings and no noodles), jerky, NSA yogurt, sugar-free pudding or jello
(love both with diced fresh over-ripe peaches in it - especially mixed with
vanilla pudding!), broccoli-cheese-bacon salad (write me if you want the
recipe), tuna stuffed tomato, cheese stuffed potato skins (lots of cheese
melted on one well scraped p.skin - low-carb, not no-carb), and the list
goes on. Feel free to email me if you want! Best of luck to you and
congrats on your anniversary!

This is going to sound really weird but I never ate breakfast pre op (not
since I lived at my parent's home 30 years ago) Of course, I don't have
that luxury now. I must eat but don't like most breakfast type foods plus
they are too many carbs for me. Hadiyah, the best thing I have found for
breakfast are leftovers from dinner. I had some shrimp and a tiny bit of
egg salad this morning. It was so yummy. I think if you think
"outside the box" when it comes to breakfast foods you might find
some satisfaction. Dinner is so good for breakfast. It feels a little
decadent too. I remember how we used to love it when my mom would do
reverse meals like pancakes for dinner. Beware the carbs. Eating any
other than fruit will not get you off that plateau. I have only lost 81
lbs but I know a bit about breaking a plateau. Remember meat and water are
your friends. Good luck. Ann in TX

I probably won't be much use to you for breakfast as I eat GrapeNuts soaked
in grape juice. This is on the advice of my surgeon as he wants me to have
the fiber and the laxative effects of that combination (sounds gross but it
tastes pretty good). But you could have hard boiled egg, tuna salad, bacon,
lean ham, or anything that you could eat any other time of day. For lunch
(work days) I have cottage cheese with onion, bell pepper, salt and pepper.
Or I have canned salmon or sardines (very high in protein). And dinner is
frequently peanuts, crackers and cheese, cottage cheese, peanut butter, or
some grilled meat and a salad. I vary my diet more on the weekends when
I'm at home. But this works very well for me during the work week.

OOOOHHHH! Laura - I am addicted to Just Cheese (pizza flavor)! Pricey
where I live, and sort of high in calories - 150 a serving, and one little
bag is 2 servings. But -YUM! Not to mention my dogs are always begging for
some when I eat them - the Rottie can leave a drool puddle the size of a
small pond when I eat them in front of him.

Hi DR- I would suggest you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. His 2 week
induction program is great for jump starting weight loss, and it will cut
the carb craving way down. I believe he also has meal planning in there, I
can't remember. Good Luck!

hadiyah, i almost always bring my lunch to work - here are some things that
work for me: 1/3 cup chili (home made, with lean beef and kidney beans)
with 2 saltines for some crunch, 2 oz. turkey on one slice pepperidge farm
lite whole wheat bread (only 9 carbs/slice), 1/3c cottage cheese with melon
or berries, plus 2 saltines, salad with turkey breast or leftover roasted
chicken on top, 1/4 c tuna on some lettuce w/2 saltines. i also bring a
snack, which is usually a piece of cheese, cottage cheese (if i haven't had
it for lunch) or half a balance gold bar, plus i'll keep some snack packs
of sugar free jello around in case i have a yen for something sweet.

I eat the same things pretty much for any meal, so here goes: Eggs (hard
boiled, scrambled w/ cheese, deviled), turkey and cheese roll-ups (good
quality deli turkey like deitz&watson gourmet lite rolled up w/ a 1/4
slice of American cheese), beef jerky, string cheese or cheese cubes, taco
meat (lean ground beef w/ taco seasoning), tuna salad (solid white tuna w/
a little mayo and onion), sloppy joe meat (lean ground beef w/ sloppy joe
seasoning). Chef salads made w/ lettuce and whatever protein sources I
have on hand (eggs, ham, chicken). For dinner I usually eat some lean
protein with a veggie (chicken breast, steak, salmon, etc). In between I
have protein shakes for snack, and sometime keep protein bar in my desk,
also for snack time. This is what I eat if I'm "actively" trying
to lose. If I'm "maintaining" (which is rare that I'm at that
stage, I'm always trying to lose the few pounds I gained during my last
"maintenance" phase, Hah!) I add more whole grain carbs into the
mix like Wasa crackers or add some fruit or starchy veggies... which leads
to more carbs, which leads back to the "actively losing" stage!

I usually just have cheese for breakfast, so I am not much help to you. But
I do find that I eat fewer carbs and less calories when I have a
protein-only breakfast.
For a while I did breakfast tacos that I
ate a bit of before going to work and finished at work: 1)taco meat,
cheese, and fixin's (tomato, lettuce, avocado) or 2)egg, bacon, &
cheese both on the La Tortilla Factory Lo Carb Tortilla. I can
wholeheartedly recommend those tortillas. They are good and have 8 or 15
grams of fiber depending on the size you get. My daughter eats them without
the smallest complaint!Last night I was feeling creative and wrapped a hot
dog and cheese in one with some mustard. It was good!
I keep some
foods in my desk at work for emergency snacking: Peanut butter, small cans
of tuna and mayo packets, Flax-o-meal (like instant oatmeal but only 2
effective carbs and 10 grams of fiber), cashews or pistachios, protein
bars, etc. I also eat anything at any time of day. If I am hungry, my lunch
meal becomes my mid-morning snack.
Carb cravings are the worst
but, believe it or not, they ARE controllable. You just have to detox
yourself from them and the cravings will subside.

Cottage cheese w/fruit (it's what I'm eating right now).
The thing about carbs is that you have to do all or nothing. When I was in
my rapid weightloss stage, I ate NO carbs at all (by that I mean nothing
that weight watchers would've classified as a "bread") except
beans and of course dairy.
Now that I'm pregnant, I can't do a low-carb diet and just by allowing a
small amount of carbs back in, I've become completely addicted. Carbs are
all I think about. I find I have to incorporate them into EVERY meal now.
Before I did very well just eating protein, dairy and veggies. Good luck.
