Question:
Can using
contribute or help with our hair growth? Hopefully no one has asked this question~I haven't checked the library this time. Almost sure there are many others in the same situation as myself with the loss of hair. When does it end?I'm 9 months out and began losing hair, I believe, at month(s) 3 or 4. It STILL comes out and it's getting very, very thin. I've always had a thick head of hair and now, you can just about see my brains!!(Just kidding)It is very thin though, and I'm real concerned...Can anyone offer any logical explanation or advice? I really miss having my hair and not to fond AT ALL of wigs, especially in the summertime. I hear it feels like one's entire head is in the sauna! Is there HOPE for any of us? Thanks for your input! LAP RNY 9/3/02 265/158/115-126...and on a plateau right now, but not forever!!! Hadiyah, a.k.a.~~~ — yourdivaness (posted on June 19, 2003)

I simply can't understand what is happening with the rest of my question!!!
It should Read like this "Can using "Real Meals" Meal
Replacement Protein Shake contribute or helo with our hair growth?"

My nutritionist and surgeon say that hair loss is directly related to
protein intake. That if you lose hair, you should up your protein. They
also say if you've been getting your protein like you're supposed to, the
hair loss should be minimized. Hope this helps. :)

This is interesting .. . .. since month three I have had a fully
functioning stomach again due to a fistula. I started to lose my hair at
month four and I am still losing it at month six. It can't be due to lack
of protein because I fully absorb all the protein I eat! I am convinced it
is from the anesthesia from surgery. I think I am an interesting
"test" subject due to my unfortunate and rare complication. My
revision is the end of this month. I am not looking forward to a whole
other "crop" of hair going south. I will be bald!

this is more of a comment. Ive been losing mine for a month at least I'm 5
mos. out. my doctor says its stress. I guess from the surgery. it is
getting so thin. I started using Nioxin, its only been a week I don't see a
difference yet. my hair dresser said her's fell out when she lost a lot of
weight. I dont know but everything I read says it will stop soon. how soon
I wonder????

Mine is more of a comment too, I am still preop but the stress from trying
to get surgery done made my hair fall out. I have a bald spot right above
my ear and the doctor said that it was stress. While my hair has gotten
thin all over the bald spot is very noticable. Hormones and stress can
cuase our bodies to do some pretty weird things and I don't think there
really is anything you can do about it. But since we are supposed to get
more protein in than anything else I would say that the Real Meals wouldn't
hurt and if it helps hair regrow or stop falling out what is the harm in
trying it.

Is it slowing down at all? Can you see new hairs coming in at the root
level? It usually only lasts for a good 3 months or so, so you should have
had it stop around 7-8 months. How is your protein intake? Have you had
your blood levels checked at 9 months post-op? Make sure your protein is
up as a lack of protein or not absorbing protein can make the hall fall
out. This happened to someone in my support group who was 10 months post
when it started falling out again. She had to up her protein to get it to
stop.

I just have a thought to add. First, I'm with you. I've been losing my
hair for three months now. It is pure torture for us ladies. I can't tell
you haw many doctors I have spoken to about this. (well- yes, I can,
five.) They are all of the same general concensus. Wait it out, and get
good nutrition now. I noticed in a lot of posts the general feeling that
your hair falling may be because of lack of protein currently.
Scientifically, you are paying for your lack of protein IN THE PAST. It's
not like yesterday you didn't get enough protein -so your hair started
falling out -so tomorrow you just eat more and it stops. Now, no one
actually said that, it's just an impression I got. So, what we have here
is us paying for the stress to our bodies of surgery and anesthesia and
lack of protein from several months ago (usually the first 3 months after
our surgery). Hair usually takes about 3 months or so to react to these
conditions (some people are more sensitive than others so it will happen
quicker) Your hair will stop when it's ready and there is literally
nothing you can do about it. However, if you have regrowth- you can
nurture that with biotin or nioxin to help it grow quicker and healthier.
Also, you can keep up with your protein so it doesnt happen again and keep
your stress low so that's not a factor. Good luck to you (and me too, I
miss my hair!)
