Question:
Who is responsible for the referral to the plastic surgeon?
I'm 9 months 2 weeks and 2 days post-op LAP RNY (9/3/02). Just wondering who it would be~the surgeon that did my WLS or my PCP that is responsible for the referral to a plastic surgeon? — yourdivaness (posted on June 19, 2003)

If your insurance is paying, its your PCP. If not expecting insurance to
pay, none required.

DItto..if it's covered under your ins, then the PCP does a referral, unless
you are PPO or EPO, in which case YOU do the work, but
beware>>>use a participating PS or you'll have higher out of
pocket expenses. If it's not covered, feel free to use whoever you prefer
and be smart>>>NEGOTIATE A GOOD FEE, especially if you will
eventually have more than one PS procedure. (I had three and negotiated
discount rates with each) Another thing that helps is bringing a friend
and asking for a reduction in fees if you both use him.
Good luck,
