Question:
How often do you get or have you had colon cleansing,
colon irrigation or colon hydrotherapy done (not with pills or drinks, but mechanically in a sterile environment with autoclaved or disposable equipment) since you have had WLS? — yourdivaness (posted on June 19, 2003)

Twice a year should be sufficient on the colon cleanses. I wouldn't do
them more then that. Always inform the practioner that you've had Gastric
Bypass beforehand.

Why are you getting colon cleansing? Do you have a history of polyps? My
surgeon, regular physician and nutritionist told me that getting those
cleansings done is a waste of money and emotional aggrivation. If you have
a history of colon polyps, family history of colon polyps or colon cancer,
you don't need to get these unless you can't poop for a couple of days and
might have a block. The colon cleansing just upsets your body's chemistry
too much, otherwise. Your body has to learn how to clean itself, and having
chemicals, disposable equipment, etc... it is too hard on your insides and
eventually your body won't be able to eliminate waste materials without it.
Get another physicians opinion before going through this time and again.
Listen to your body. It will tell you when you need help! :~) Good luck!

I agree with the last poster on all points. It's not necessary to do this.
It has become some type of a fad with the stars, but your body does this
naturally.

I agree with the others- as I feel it not only takes out waste, but the
fluids that your body may need. The colon (as well the uterus) is a self
cleaning body part, and should be left alone- unless a Doctor says to clean
them out; I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone. I didn't say or write that
"I" was getting it done. Okay now, I was ONLY asking a question.
Sharon, why do you ask me "Why are you getting a colon cleansing? Do
you have a history of polyps?" Has anyone studied this procedure at
all? I'm considering it. I'm simply asking the question. There are several
members on this website who gets it done, some more than others. You don't
have to have colon polyps to have colon cleansing, irrigation or
hydrotherapy done. I'm sure if you go to the library, and click on Colon
Health or Colon Cleanser(s), you will find out who some of them are. I will
say some are quite knowledgeable in this area of holistic or alternative
medicine and nutrition as well as other areas. I'm in school now for a
master's degree in Holistic Medicine & Nutrition and will be practicing
soon once passing the required exams and licensure. So, as I mentioned, I
just asked the question. Umm, I don't quite agree with you in that the
colon can cleanse itself. That is not true, ladies. Can we wait for a
moment and get back to this after a few more have responded? I will give
you some examples of what I have learned-just for future reference. Since I
wasn't sure 100%, that's why I asked. When or if anyone practices
all-natural health, naturopathy or take herbs of any kind, then they can
relate, but let's just wait and see, then I'll let you in on a little
something, o.k.?

Howdy!! I just wanted to share w/yall something I learned while in school.
I do not agree or disagree w/the following information! I am just sharing
what I learned. I went to school last year for my Manicuing license, we had
a fella come in for an aromatherapy/reflexology class. He told us some
chilling 'facts'(or not????) about this colon cleansing. That people can
have 10-15lbs of Fecal matter just lying in their colon, (john wayne was an
example he used, supposedly when JW died he had 12+lbs of FM in him, and
Elvis was an astonishing(or not!) 15+lbs) That colon cleansings were
excellent for your body, that most infections in the organs and blood
stream come from rotting FM inside your colon. NOW....again dont bombard me
with screaming complaints, I am only sharing what I was "taught".
The guy was a good reflexologist, and had wonderful hands, he worked mostly
with the lymph system, and I let him "empty my lymph nodes"(those
are his words not mine). When the guy was done, my sinuses were draining so
much I had to throw up 3-4 times afterward, and I did NOT get a sinus
infection the whole winter!! I dont know if that was why, but my cold was
gone the next day, and I had 0 problems the rest of the YR. I did NOT
however run out and get a colon cleansing!!!!!! I would allow him to
"redrain whatever he drained" Cuz I have allergies right now that
are murder!!!!!!
Just sharing info, again, please do NOT throw stuff at me!!
TTFN....

With my medical history I have been the recipient of more colonoscopies
than I ever wanted. I have watched the monitor on several occasions and can
testify that there is no excess fecal matter clinging to the walls etc...
I would prefer to fast, take an exlax and spend the irrigation money on
something special for myself....
