Question:
6 days post, nights sweats awful

Hi. I am 6 days post op and whenever I fall asleep I wake up soaking wet and cold. I haven't been on any medication since day 2. Is this common? I have to try sleep sitting pretty much upright. I had lap rny. Any ideas? Thanks!!! Jill    — Jill E. (posted on June 8, 2003)

not too uncommon after a surgery....extreme fluctuations in body temp is pretty common. Some find they are hot constantly or it goes back and forth. Likely as not, its your body working the anesthesia from its system.

Jill, oh how I feel for you! I had terrible hot flashes for about 10 days postop. They were awful. Then at night I was freezing. I'm usually a warm person, but I was colder than I could ever remember being in my life. Eventually it got better. I'm just under 8 wks out and have returned to a somewhat 'normal' temperature again although I am still generally colder than pre-op. If you're really worried about it, I suggest talking to your dr.
