Question:
Why are my feet so dry?

My feet are so dry and I have been slathering them with different kinds of foot lotions and putting socks over them with no change. Help!    — peggyp (posted on May 6, 2003)

I had this happen to me and it turned out to be a fungal infection- who knew? Didn't look like anything but very dry skin. One very expensive prescription, and three months later, I have beautiful normal looking feet again.

Have you tried using vaseline instead of lotions? It worked for me. Still use it with the socks for moisturizing and because it's rather messy without.

I've been told to use Vaseline and wear socks as well. Because lotion has a lot of water in it, it can dry your feet out. I've also been told that wax paraffin treatments can make your feet soft as well. I'll let you know how that goes. I've purchased the wax but have not applied the treatment yet. The Vaseline and socks have been working for me. And believe me, nobody has dryer feet than I!

I was hoping for some good answers here as I have a dry BODY! I swear everything has dried out the last month and I itch! Ready to go see the doc about it soon. I wonder if it is the lack of fats in my diet. hmmm...thoughts anyone?

Protein supplements, then vit E, dry form, then water. I know, I know, I'm a water slacker. But those are the top 3 you can fix easily while you're waiting for your appt with derma or foot doc. Between the malabsorbing fats/oils and avoiding them, we do tend to run a litle short in those. Search out the healthy ones, like PB or olive oil and incorporate those back into your life a bit.

I second what Michelle says, plus I highly recommend "Shea It Isn't So" shea butter foot cream from Bath & Body Works. Lotions aren't as good as creams. Put it on right after your shower, then again right before bedtime, with thin cotton socks. I've been using it for a few months now and can get by with every other day, once a day. Wonderful stuff! I'll bet my feet haven't been this soft since I was a baby. - Anna
