Question:
Did anyone else hear that Camryn Manheim had WLS?

A co-worker told me that she had the surgery.    — Karen K. (posted on January 7, 2003)

I guess it is possible, I know that she was off of a couple of shows, but I thought is was because she was pj in real life as well as on the show. With all the openiness with celebrities now, I am wondering why in she did have WLS she won't let people know, look at Al Roaker and Carrie Wilson.

I have not heard that, but if she starts losing lots of weight in a short period of time then perhaps its true. Time will tell!

How interesting! She's such a gorgeous lady as she is, but I worry about her health (she has a young baby now too). I'll see if there's anything on the Internet about it. Hugs, Joy

I don't have an answer for you unfortunately but your question sparked my curiousity on another star. I was curious about Missy Elliot (the rapper). She has lost a ton of weight in a pretty short amount of time, I was curious if she had the surgery also. If anyone out there knows the answer I would love to hear it.

Missy has commented on her weight loss. She did not have the surgery. She's just changed her eating habits and exercise routine.

I don't know about the first person, but I can say that Missy Elliott stated in an interview that she did not have WLS. It was also mentioned that she lost around 50 lbs. I thought it was more than that. If you hear differently let me know. Thanks, Mary Beth

Missy Elliot first began losing weight several months ago when she stopped smoking marijuana (she mentioned this in an interview). Then she started having health problems (she's hypertensive) and decided to continue losing weight through diet and exercise.

Actually, I saw on TV that Ann had the Lap Band. lol who knows!!

Ann Wilson had lap band (spotlighthealth.com) and as far as Camryn Manheim, one of the supermarket "rag mags" hinted at possible wls, though her friends/confidants are denying wls and saying "just diet and exercise". Apparently she is down to about 185#'s now from 260+. But it has apparently taken a number of months. WLS, who knows? It's her business...as far as the rapper, I don't know...and the woman from ER did it through diet and exercise. Good luck to EVERYONE...no matter how they do it!!! Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~

Well, as far as Cameron Manheim, I really don't know, but hell, why not do it?!? Who I think should SERIOUSLY have this surgery is Star Jones....She's absolutely gorgeous and would be even more so if she lost the weight!! Watch, she'll be next on the list of WLS Post ops!! :)

I've often wondered whether Star Jones will do it. She is a beautiful woman, but she is in her 40s and is very large. Only my opinion, but I think she's gotten so large that she should be concerned about her health. I don't watch the show regularly, but I've never heard her talk about her weight at all.

VBG is a form of WLS, as is Lap-band, RNY, DS, etc. And I heard that that lady on ER did have the surgery. Also, I heard that there is another tv star (don't remember what show) that had the WLS and the producers decided to write it into the show for next season. Anyone know what the name of the actor/actress was and what show? I heard this a few weeks back, but it was just in passing and I wasn't really paying that close attention.

I personally think it is extremely rude to speculate on if someone had this surgery or not! I have seen all these names on here lately did Camryn, did Missy Elliot?, Did Jared? I think Starr Jones should, etc. I find this rude and mean.Think about it if you were in their position, I know I would not want people guessing and speculating. By the way for the person who said the lady on ER had it NO SHE DID NOT, read her story at People.com, please just because we could not do it without surgery does not mean everyone can't either.~Stephi DS 08/12/02 -90 pounds~

Some one wanted to know who else was going to have/had the operation. I don't remember his name but he is the guy on "Ed". He plays one of the student on the show. They did a show on it when he was just starting to think about it. Kudos to him. 1 for coming out to mention it and 2 to go do it and doesn't care who knows it.

Actually you are probably right, I am not sure if she had Lap Band or VGB, and they are all "WLS"... I just mentioned it because what I heard about Ann was that she felt RNY was too invasive, and too drastic and went with a band of some sorts... and it made me feel that "hers was OK" because of this fact and mine was not??? I know, perhaps I was too sensitive- but do you know what I am saying?

I'd like to make an announcement to the world: I had WLS. Lap RNY on 10/21/02. So ya'll can stop your speculating. :) But seriously, I hope Camryn did it. More importantly, though, I hope she talks about it. We need to stop being ashamed about our situations...and proud that we've taken a step to be healthy. I'm proud of all of us.

Inamed's website (the company that produces Lap-band) states that Ann wilson had this type of surgery... just to help settle that part of the debate :-)

I agree that Starr Jones should - have you listened to her talk? She can't breathe!
