Question:
I am 2 weeks post op and lost only 10 pounds. Why can't I lose more weight?
I had the gastric banding on the 16th of August. I am able to eat smaller portions, but I am not losing more weight and I feel discouraged. Can anyone suggest anything? THANK YOU-TG — Tuesday G. (posted on September 4, 2002)

2 weeks postop Congratulations!!!! I have yet to meet with my surgeon.
Since I am not post op I can't tell you for sure, but I think 10 pounds in
2 weeks is fantastic!!! They are ten pounds you would have if you hadn't
had surgery. Make sure you are eating as prescribed and make sure you get
in your water and start exercising if you haven't already. Even if you
walk 1/2 to 1 block a day it is a start. The weight will come off. Have
faith and good luck on your new life. I know you can do it! :0)

Hello from Philadelphia, PA:
I had surgery on August 21st, which is two weeks today, and have only lost
11 pounds. I had the lap rny done. They say you lose more weight with lap
rny than with gastric banding, but I am losing about the same as you. I am
basically having two protein shakes per day, drinking 64 oz of water and
occasionally mushing something up in the blender, or having 2 tbsps of fat
free ricotta cheese. I find it so difficult to get the protein (55 grams
per day), and the required amount of water (64 ozs.) in during the day. We
are not permitted to drink 1 hour before or 1 hour after eating, so that is
also difficult. I am doing the recommended amount of walking, eating
protein, and drinking the required amount of water. I am truly not hungry,
but am growing to despise the protein shakes. I have liquid protein, soy
powdered protein and just bought IsoPure no carb protein drinks. They are
very expensive at $3.50 a bottle, but they are what I need right now. I
know how you feel. After all you went through, you hope to lose so much
immediately. I have been told that if you are in the lower weight range,
weight will come off much more slowly. Good luck in your continued
efforts. I figure we have already lost 5 pound each week, something I was
never able to do on conventional diets. Please feel free to email me at
[email protected], if you would like to chat.

Hiya Tuesday!!~ First off congrats for being on the "other side"
second let me remind you that you probably GAINED while in the hospital.
those IV fluids really plump ya up. so in all reality you have probably
lost more than 10 pounds. This WILL work. 15 weeks out for me and I am down
81 pounds. (wooHOOOOoo0) Just keep doing what you are doing and the weight
will come off. :0)

Tuesday, first off CONGRATS! You should be proud in what you have done.
Secondly, everyone loses at different intervals. We all have different
bodies. I agree with the prior post, you had SO MUCH IV Fluid pumped into
you, that many people come home from the hospital 10-15lbs more than when
they checked in. So, if you think of it that way, you probably have loss
more than 10lbs. Did you weight yourself the day you left the hospital?
Good Luck, don't fret. I had surgery 8-15 and lost 21lbs in the first 8
days and since have only lost 5lbs...so, I am too am discouraged! Just
remember to be patient, you didn't gain it overnight, you can't expect to
lose it either. If this doesn't help, discuss the concerns with your dtr.
Good Luck. heather
