Question:
Can anyone recommend a calcium citrate pill that is SMALL?
The citrical size is too big for me. Even cutting them in half, they get stuck. I'm tired to buying citrate pills that are too large for me. I have also tried citrate liquid (yuck) and the chewable wafers (double yuck). Has anyone been successful finding a smaller pill for their calcium citrate needs? — sandieguy (posted on July 4, 2002)

I looked and have not found a smaller calcium citrate. I agree with you on
the "uck" for the liquid and chewables waffers. I have found I
can do the chewable waffers as long as I suck on them and don't chew them.

I have the same issues with the large tablets.
I have switched to the Effervescent type of Citracal.
It dissolves in a glass of water, like an alka-seltzer tablet
It has an orange flavor to it and some people like it in
iced tea. Another reason to like it is that it counts towards
the daily water requirement. At first, it took a little getting
use too but it is okay now. I hope this helps you.

Have you tried the calcium citrate powder? You put a tsp in tomato juice
(or OJ) mix it up and voila, no pills. You can find it at www.nowfoods.com.

How far post-op are you? At 3 months I would get stuck on half a Citrical,
but was able to tolerate a whole one at 6 months out. And Michelle
(Vitalady) Curran has some great Citrical +Mag+D that go down easier than
the Citrical, and you only have to take one at a time instead of 2 (500
mg/capsule).

I use Nature's Science capsules from www.bodybuilding.com: 1000 mg calcium
citrate, 500 mg magnesium, and 400 IU vitamin D in two capsules. I take one
in the morning and one in the afternoon. They are a little bigger than the
regular capsule size but very easy to swallow and I only have to swallow 2
per day instead of 4 or 6 which was why I didn't use the other brands of
capsules. They were very reasonably priced: 60 capsules for $4.89. These
are very easy for me to take and I hardly ever forget my vitamins/calcium
now that I have stuff that is not such a nightmare to get down.

I work with a physician who is involved in osteoporosis research. She says
the absolute BEST way to get calcium is through liquid delivery (because of
malabsorption issues).
She recommends orange juice with calcium included.
