Question:
I have BC/BS Federal Plan and they told me over the phone that the only thing that
they require is a letter of medical necessity, and a letter stating your height and weight which has to be over 100 lbs. overweight. Has this been true for anyone else? — YvonneBryant (posted on May 24, 2002)

I have the same insurance and live in Va. My surgeon said they are one of
the easiest to work with and I was approved within a few weeks. The doc
submits the letter of necessity and medical history.

I also have BC/BS federal. They paid very good with out all the hassle.
From first consult to surgery it was all of two months. Dr. handled all
paper work. They were quite excited to see I had BC/BS federal. I had LAP
RNY on 8/8/01. Down 112 pounds.

I have BC/BS Fed. and it took almost no time for them to approve the
surgery. They have paid almost all of it too. The only word of caution is
that if you have a PPO....Make sure your Doctor and Hospital is on your
insurer's list!!! Good Luck and God Bless!
