Question:
will my surgery be postponed because of insufficient use of a recommended bi-pap ?
i have my 3rd (and hopefully final) sleep study scheduled next weds. night, my surgery is Fri. morning. They had to schedule this last study because i only slept 45 mins last time.Has anyone had their surgery cancelled because they were not on the machine long enough at home? with only 1 night at home after the study and before surgery, i'm concerned about this. I also had to do a blood gas test yesterday. Should i worry ? Thanks for any input........ — paula T. (posted on May 18, 2002)

I had the same problem you are. I couldn't sleep during my sleep study and
I needed the machine, because my surgeon said he wanted me on it prior to
surgery. I finally got it about two weeks before surgery, but I never got
used to it and never used it (not even in the hospital). All surgeons are
different. Some want you on CPAP for a certain period of time and some
don't. I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think they will cancel surgery
just for that if everything else is going ok. Most hospitals have bipaps
if you really need it and they can also keep you on oxygen. The blood gas
test can show if you have low amounts of oxygen in your blood. Mine was
low, but I had surgery anyway.
