Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes! WE ALL DID. Now, what I would like for you to do is write this all down on your profile, and keep track of how you feel- on a scale of 1-10- do this for the first MONTH, every day, just to keep yourself occupied! You will be able to look back and see your gradual improvement. You in turn, will be able to come back and help others when they post the same question- so they too will feel normal! Also, your taste buds have taken a vacation, they will occaisionally send you a post card, but for the next 3-4 months consider them AWOL. Nothing will ever be the same- and this is good. Consider this just the worst of the worst, because once you start adapting to your new life, you won't care what you "did before" surgery, your goal is to adapt to what is at hand NOW. It is a learning process, and you must learn it. The drugs you had in the hospital are NOT helping this current situation- they make you miserable- so every day the drugs leave a little more, and every day you will feel better- just keep track, and write everything down (especially in a the introduction to food phases- so you can see what your body likes, and dislikes). Pretty soon you'll see what makes you feel good, and what doesn't.

Hang in there...the bad taste will pass. In the mean time you can have sugar free popscicles...they are great for helping with the bad taste. I also sucked on sugar free hard candy all the time to help with that. It will get better...I promise!

Hang in there! I felt awful for the first 3 weeks, and often thought "What have I done to myself" I am now 4 months postop and feel wonderful. I am down 53 pounds and off all diabetic medications (my blood sugar has stabilized Whooo hoooooo). I am very happy that I did this surgery.

I felt pretty awful for the first four months. Nausea was the worst for me. I couldn't move without feeling nauseous. I was also pretty depressed and cried over anything and everything. And then, slowly during that fourth month I began to feel better. The nausea slowly subsided, I could eat some solid foods and my energy began to come back. And now, at 1 year post op and 136 pounds lighter, I can say it's the best thing I've ever done! Hang in there!

Oh, honey, it will get better! I couldn't believe what I had done to myself for about 3 weeks. I really thought I was going to die! It was awful, but then it got a lot better. I am nearly 1 year post-op. I haven't lost as much as I'd like (only 70 pounds), but now I'm down to 185 and a size 12/14. Much more importantly, I feel great, and everyone tells me I look great too! So, even with my relatively "small" weight loss, this surgery is the best thing I've ever done in my life. It will get better for you too! You will feel human again! Good luck and God bless.

I think we all feel pretty horrible the first few weeks and maybe even the first few months..what would you rather have...a bad taste in your mouth for a couple of weeks..or a lifetime of obesity?? This surgery is gonna make you feel wonderful but first you have to let your body adjust to it...I had the same bad taste in my mouth I would eat sugar free popsicles..it works...I have lost 90lbs in less than 3 months..this surgery will work for you as well...and I can guarantee in three months time you will not be thinking you widh you hadnt had this surgery..good luck to you and just remember this will pass..

Yes...I think most of us felt like that at some point. I didn't come home from the hospital until the fifth day and was completely wanting to just be home by day 3. When I got home, all I did that first night was wish I was back in the hospital. :) Man, did I cry a lot those first two weeks. It's hard, that first week at home. Going to sleep is joyless becasue you know how much it's going to hurt to get up, eating - well, we won't even talk about that, and you're just plain weak and sad and in pain. It will pass, my friend. I promise you that. I'm nine weeks tomorrow and I honestly feel better than I have for as long as I can remember. I have unbound energy, don't miss food (surprisingly), don't miss the cigarettes I gave up, and just feel so proud and accomplished that nothing can stop me now. Those first few weeks are already a surreal memory. Give it some time...you'll see that once you get over this hurdle things will turn around and the surgery will make sense to you once again. In the meanwhile, remember it's PERFECTLY NORMAL to get frustrated and depressed at this point so just be kind to yourself.

Been there! I felt the turn around at about 3 weeks and by 5 weeks I was rolling. I am 8 weeks out and down 47 lbs. You have not really had time to get over all the anasthesia yet. It takes time....hang in there. I think I posted the same question at about 10 days out! I would have cried over a blown light bulb. Now I feel great no problems and eating what I want (protein first). I feel better than I have in years and you will too.

YES, YES, YES! I am 4 weeks post-op and am still wondering if I made the right choice. I still feel bad. However, I must admit that each day it gets a LITTLE better. I have a bad taste in my mouth, everything gives me gas and I am having a really hard time getting in my protein and liquids. Would I do it again? I don't know yet. I think eventually I will be happy I did it and will be able to forget all the bad stuff. I hope you feel better soon.

Is the bad taste in your mouth a metallic taste? that is from the anestheia. When I had my breast reduction I had that taste for a few weeks. It is horrible, but it does go away. Good luck...

Just to add my .02 cents -- I too felt really awful the first 8-10 weeks. First dealing with the pain and discomfort and trying to cough. Yikes I'll never forget that! Then being so depressed because every time I sat down to eat with my family I could only eat 2-3 bites and have to leave the table. Everything got stuck, and I would eventually vomit. After the first 2 months I started to feel a little better and I could handle food much better. One thing my Dr stresed is that as soon as you start to feel the first sign of tightness in your chest "STOP EATNG". I guess I couldnt tell when I had enough and was overdoing it. Hey live and learn! Now at almost 11 months post-op and 80 lbs gone (10 more to my personal goal) I feel like all that was sooooo long ago. A very distant memory. Today i feel great and can eat pretty much anything in moderation. PS I also live on those sugar-free popsicles!! Best of luck.
