Question:
Can anyone give me some advice on Puree food.
Recipes or anything. I have also been told baby food. I am most of all concerned about this after surgery. I have seen a nutrionist but we never really talked about this. This basically one of my biggest concerns, only because I want to heal properly and be sucessful in the end.... Thanks for all of your help. — annette_eveleth (posted on March 23, 2002)

The thought of puree'd foods was pretty horrible for me. However, I think
that came from the notion of tasteless baby food. I made some high protein
mashed potatoes and puree'd turkey before surgery and froze them in ice
cube trays. Once frozen, pop them out and store them in a ziplock freezer
bag. One *cube* is an ounce, so they were really easy to use after surgery
- I wasn't up for 'cooking', just microwave two and there's your meal.
Also, if you like hummus, that's considered puree too - and winter squash
(not much protein in there though)
high protein mashed potatoes - normal home made mashed potatoes but add
cottage cheese instead of butter, it melts and you don't know it's in
there
turkey puree - cooked turkey breast - cut up and add a little skim milk and
some heinz fat free gravy (and pepper if you like)......the texture is a
little interesting, but the flavor is good. I didn't puree it too much so
it still had a little *chew*......was like the consistancey of tuna salad.
Beware, though -- the stuff they gave me in the hospital was just like baby
food -- YUK!!! I'd experiment some prior to surgery because you probably
won't be energetic enough at first to do anything interesting.
Good luck!!
