My doctor reccomends that we get a gm of protein per kilo of body weight..
I also suggest that you consider getting the bulk of your protein through
pre digested whey protein shakes... as weight loss surgery patients absorb
very little , if any , of the protein gotten out of food sources..

What is your source for your statement that we absorb very little of the
protein we eat. I would like to copy this for my surgeon because he
doesn't believe in protein drinks.

Re Protein absorbtion, I think it really depends on the kind of surgery you
have and how much intestine is bypassed. I was REALLY worried about not
digesting protein from food and when I asked my surgeon, he said I didn't
have much intestine bypassed at all, so I still absorb everything on labels
(including calories unfortunately, but I am healthy, so not complaining). I
really like Carnation instant breakfasts (no sugar added) with a cup of
milk, and a 1/4 cup of powdered milk for extra protein. You can add a few
strawberries or a tbs of peanutbutter for added variety. I haven't found
any 'protein shakes' that have been palatable for me- but everyone is
different. They each have a nutrition label that says how much vitamins and
protein is in them, and the best way to mix them (some water, some milk;
one hint is to blend them in a blender instead of just mixing with a
spoon). Good Luck on your journey. :)
